  Ionic dialect ἐπειρ-, consult, inquire of, with accusative person, τὸ χρηστήριον, τὸν θεόν, εἰ.. Herodotus Historicus 1.53, Thucydides Historicus 1.118, etc.; τινὰ περί τινος Herodotus Historicus 1.32 , cf. Oracle texts cited in Demosthenes Orator 43.66; later, ἐν τῷ θεῷ Vetus Testamentum Graece redditum LXX.Judg.18.5 +4th c.BC+:—passive, to be questioned, asked a question, Thucydides Historicus 5.45, Plato Philosophus “Sph.” 250a.
