  (i.e. μηδὲ εἷς, μηδὲ μία, μηδὲ ἕν): feminine μηδὲ ἴα or μηδεΐα (or -έϊα) “IG” 12(2).6.12 (Mytil.) :— not one, not even one, nobody (in neuter nothing), once in Homerus Epicus (who elsewhere uses μή τις, see at {μήτις}), ἀναίνετο μηδὲν ἑλέσθαι Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 18.500; μή πως.. μηδὲν ἀνύσσῃς Hesiodus Epicus “Opera et Dies” 395; μηδὲν ἄγαν Pindarus Lyricus “Fragmenta.” 216, etc.: rare in pl. (μηδαμοί being used in Ion.), μηδένες ἄλλοι Xenophon Historicus “Historia Graeca (Hellenica)” 5.4.20; μηδένας Plato Philosophus “Euthydemus” 303c.
__2 μηδὲ εἷς (so written) is found in Attic dialect Inscrr., as “IG” 12.114.41, 22.487.9 (μηδ᾽ hενί prev. work12.73.6), but is used especially in an emphatic sense, not even one, μηδὲ ἕν Aristophanes Comicus “Plutus” 37 : frequently with an intervening Particle or preposition, μηδ᾽ ἂν ἕνα Plato Philosophus “Cratylus” 414d; μηδ᾽ ἐν ἑνὶ χρόνῳ prev. author “Prm.” 156c; μηδ᾽ ἐξ ἑνός prev. author “Phdr.” 245d; μηδ᾽ ἐφ᾽ ἑνί prev. author “R.” 553d; μηδὲ περὶ ἑνός prev. author “Tht.” 171c ; μηδ᾽ ὑφ᾽ ἑνός, μηδ᾽ ὑπὸ μιᾶς, prev. author “Smp.” 222d, Alcaeus1.122a; μηδὲ ὑφ᾽ ἑνός “IG” 12.32.8.

__III neuter μηδέν as adverb, not at all, by no means, μηδὲν ἐγκέλευ᾽ ἄγαν Aeschylus Tragicus “Prometheus Vinctus” 72, compare 344; μ. διαφέρειν πλὴν ὀνόματι Plato Philosophus “Politicus” 280a, etc. : with an adverb, μ. αἰνικτηρίως Aeschylus Tragicus “Prometheus Vinctus” 949: frequently with Comp., μ. μᾶλλον, ἧσσον, etc., Sophocles Tragicus “Ajax” 280, 1329, etc. — When other negatives, also derived from μή, are used with it, they do not destroy, but strengthen the negation, μηδέποτε μηδὲν αἰσχρὸν ποιήσας ἔλπιζε λήσειν never hope to escape, when you have done anything base. Isocrates Orator 1.16 ; compare μηθείς.
