ὠφέλ-εια, ἡ,
  required by the metre (in iambics), Sophocles Tragicus “Electra” 944, Aristophanes Comicus “Thesmophoriazusae” 183 ; whereas ὠφελία is required in Euripides Tragicus “Andromache” 539 (anap.), “fragment” 78 (Lyric poetry), Aristophanes Comicus “Ecclesiazusae” 576 (Lyric poetry) : the best codices of Plato Philosophus have ὠφελία more frequently than ὠφέλεια (although B always has ὠφέλεια in “Phdr.”), and ὠφελία is found in “IG” 12.69.24 (5th c.BC, Prose), Hyperides Orator “pro Euxenippo” 9, and frequently in Philodemus Gadarensis Epigrammaticus, as “Mus.” p.54 K., al. : Ionic dialect ὠφελίη Herodotus Historicus 5.98, al., “Anthologia Graeca” 6.187 (Alpheus Epigrammaticus) :— help, aid, succour, especially in war, ἔπεμπον ἐς τὴν Ἐπίδαμνον.. τὴν ὠ.
