Woordstudie
pterygion, zn. o. van een vermeende afleiding van πτέρυξ G04420;
1) vleugel, kleine vleugel; 2) ieder puntig uiteinde; 2a) van vinnen van vissen; 2b) van een gedeelte van een kledingstuk dat in de vorm van een vleugel omlaaghangt; 2c) van de top van de tempel in Jeruzalem. Wordt in de Bijbel (Mat. 4:5; Luk. 4:9) alleen gebruikt om de hoek van de tempel aan te duiden vanwaar Jezus werd verzocht door de duivel. Dit is waarschijnlijk de zuidoostelijke hoek van de tempel die tegen de heuvel aanligt en op dat punt ruim 135 m. hoog was. Het was op deze plek waar een priester op de sjofar blies om het begin en het einde van de sabbat aan te duiden.
